
Head Airport Operations
Role Purpose
Lead and oversee end-to-end airport operations including Airside, Terminal, APOC, Operations Planning in close coordination with ARFF (Rescue & Fire Fighting) and Crisis Management. Focus on ensuring safe, efficient, compliant, and passenger-centric operations aligned with DGCA, ICAO, and international best practices."
Key Responsibilities
· Airport Operations Leadership
o Provide overall leadership and governance for airside, terminal, APOC, and operations planning functions.
o Ensure safe, efficient, and seamless airport operations in compliance with DGCA, ICAO, and other regulatory requirements.
o Establish and implement SOPs, policies, and operational frameworks for all operational areas.
o Manage operational performance through defined KPIs and service standards."
· Airside Operations Management
o Oversee apron management, aircraft movement coordination, ground handling operations, wildlife hazard management, and airside safety compliance.
o Ensure adherence to CAR regulations and aerodrome safety standards across all airside activities.
o Coordinate with airlines, ground handlers, cargo operators, fuel providers, and MROs for efficient aircraft turnaround and apron discipline.
o Ensure safe operation of aircraft, equipment, and vehicles within the movement area."
· Terminal Operations & Passenger Experience
o Lead operations of the Passenger Terminal Building (PTB) ensuring seamless passenger flow and operational efficiency.
o Enhance passenger experience aligned with Airport Service Quality (ASQ) objectives.
o Coordinate with airlines, security agencies, immigration, customs, and other stakeholders to ensure efficient terminal processes.
o Act as the nodal officer during emergencies, contingencies, and crisis situations within the terminal."
· Airport Operations Control Centre (APOC)
o Establish and manage the APOC for real-time monitoring and coordination of airport operations.
o Ensure integrated decision-making and resource optimization through APOC systems and processes.
o Oversee slot allocation, capacity planning, operational forecasting, and operational data management.
o Ensure timely and accurate flight data completion for aeronautical billing and operational reporting."
· Operations Planning & Commissioning
o Support airport commissioning, ORAT (Operational Readiness & Airport Transfer), and operational trials.
o Develop concept of operations (ConOps) and operational procedures for all airport systems.
o Coordinate with EPC, IT, and system providers for operational specifications of airport systems.
o Support development and review of airport master planning, airspace procedures, and airfield planning."
· Regulatory & Stakeholder Coordination
o Liaise with DGCA, AAI, ATC, CISF, airlines, and other regulatory authorities for operational approvals and compliance.
o Lead preparation of Aerodrome Licensing documentation, Aerodrome Manual, AIS publications, NOTAM coordination, and regulatory submissions.
o Support installation and commissioning of CNS/ATM systems and navigation aids.
o Ensure coordination with civic authorities on aerodrome safeguarding and obstacle control (NOCAS)."
· Safety, Compliance & Risk Management
o Ensure compliance with airport safety management systems (SMS) and operational risk management practices.
o Support preparation of HIRA, safety assessments, and safety manuals.
o Monitor construction and operational activities for regulatory compliance and safety standards."
· Stakeholder & Team Management
o Lead and develop multidisciplinary operations teams across airside, terminal, APOC, and planning functions.
o Build strong coordination with internal departments and external stakeholders.
o Manage operational budgets (CAPEX/OPEX), workforce planning, and training programs."
Educational Qualification
· B.E. / B.Tech / M.Sc in Electrical & Electronics, Electronics & Communication, Aviation, or related field.
· MBA or Postgraduate qualification is required."
Experience
· 15–20 years of experience in airport operations or aviation operations.
· Minimum 10 years in senior leadership roles across airside, terminal, or integrated airport operations.
· Experience in airport commissioning, ORAT, and aerodrome licensing is highly desirable."
Knowledge & Skills
· Understanding of DGCA CAR, ICAO Annexes, aerodrome regulations, and aviation safety frameworks.
· Knowledge of ATC coordination, CNS/ATM systems, AIS processes, and slot management.
· Experience with APOC/AOCC operations and airport systems integration.
Strong leadership, stakeholder management, and crisis management skills."
